“Worship at First United is joyful and inclusive, creative and imaginative, biblically based, rooted in a deep spirituality, practical for everyday living, with often a social justice focus, and reflective of the diverse progressive traditions within the worldwide church.”
Regular Sunday Service – 10:30 am
Our regular service time is 10:30 am, unless otherwise noted. We sing hymns that are drawn from the global church and contemporary composers, as well as hymns that are part of our heritage.
Our ministers, current and retired, are active leaders in worship. In addition, there is a network of lay leaders who read scripture, offer prayers, and conduct the worship services. Training and support is provided for them on an ongoing basis. There are several trained lay preachers, who preach at least once a year.
The first Sunday of the month we share Holy Communion.
Children & Youth
In the Sanctuary, at the back, there is a “quiet” room for parents with infants or toddlers. This is a place to be while continuing to be part of the worship service through the glass windows.
On occasion, First United shares worship with the other two Peninsula United Churches: Sunnyside United (at 24 Ave. and 154th) near Granview Corners, and Crescent United (28th Ave. and 127 Street) near Crescent Beach. The service times are posted at those locations. Generally Sunnyside services begin at 9:30 am and Crescent services begin at 10 am.
